Chinese Medicine Nutrition & Nutritional Counseling

We’ve all heard the old adage, “You are what you eat.” Our nutritional choices matter, and this is something that is often overlooked in Western medicine. Whether a patient is seeking support for fertility concerns, hormone health, inflammation, digestive health, or healing from an injury, there are always food choices that can have an impact on the body’s ability to find balance and heal itself.

The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approach to eating and nutrition is somewhat unique, focusing on the properties of various foods and how different types of preparation affect the body. Chinese medicine nutrition looks beyond calories and nutrients alone, considering the individual, their constitution, symptoms, digestion, energy, and overall patterns of imbalance.

I have a deep knowledge of nutrition and wellness from both Chinese and Western perspectives. I bring a modern approach to this ancient wisdom, helping you discover the foods, preparation methods, and nutritional practices that best support your unique needs.

Personalized Nutritional Counseling

With nutritional counseling, we will discuss your current eating habits, food preferences, cravings, relationship with food, and any concerns you may have around nutrition and wellness. When appropriate, Melanie may also incorporate principles of Chinese medicine dietary therapy and personalized food recommendations into your overall treatment plan.

If applicable, we will also discuss your blood panel results, so please come prepared with your most recent lab results. If you are considering starting a GLP-1 medication or other peptide therapy, please also let us know so this can be taken into consideration when discussing your nutritional needs.

The goal isn't to follow a rigid diet or prescribe a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, nutritional counseling is an opportunity to better understand how food can support your individual health, energy, digestion, hormones, fertility, and overall wellbeing.

A Body-Positive Approach to Nutrition

Please note that the goal of nutritional counseling is to help you feel better.

I celebrate all body types and sizes and have a strict zero-tolerance policy for body shaming. I do not promote weight loss as a measure of self-worth or appearance-based ideals. No comments or comparisons will ever be made regarding weight, shape, size, or physical appearance.

All shapes, sizes, and abilities are welcome here.
Nutrition is not about achieving a particular body. It is about learning how to nourish and support the body you have.
